Visceral Manipulation
Visceral Manipulation, as developed by Jean-Pierre Barral and taught through the Barral Institute, is a gentle manual therapy that focuses on improving mobility and balance within the body’s internal organs and the connective tissues that support them. Restrictions in these deeper structures can create tension patterns that contribute to pain, impaired movement and dysfunction throughout the musculoskeletal and nervous systems.
Using precise light-touch techniques, the therapist assesses subtle motions of the organs—such as the stomach, liver, intestines and diaphragm—and identifies areas of decreased mobility or strain. By restoring normal tissue motion and improving the relationship between the organs and the surrounding structures, Visceral Manipulation can reduce pain, enhance alignment, improve digestion and breathing mechanics and support overall function.
This approach is especially helpful for patients with chronic pain, scar tissue, post-surgical tension, digestive issues, pelvic or abdominal discomfort and unresolved musculoskeletal patterns that have not fully responded to traditional treatments.
