SomatoEmotional Release
SomatoEmotional Release (SER), developed by Dr. John Upledger through the Upledger Institute, is a gentle, hands-on technique that builds on craniosacral therapy to help the body release the residual physical and emotional effects of past trauma, stress and injury. Our bodies often retain the imprint of difficult experiences within the soft tissues—areas sometimes referred to as “energy cysts”—which can contribute to lingering tension, restricted movement and discomfort long after the original event has passed.
Using the same soft, light-touch approach as craniosacral therapy, your therapist follows the body’s natural rhythms and tissue responses, gently supporting the release of held patterns of tension. This process may be paired with therapeutic dialogue, imagery and mindful awareness, allowing the body and mind to let go of stored stress in a safe, supportive setting. We have found SomatoEmotional Release especially helpful for calming the nervous system and restoring a sense of balance and ease, supporting conditions such as:
- Chronic pain
- Fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue
- Headaches and migraines
- Post-concussion syndrome
- Stress- and tension-related conditions
- Trauma-related holding patterns
- Unresolved musculoskeletal pain that has not fully responded to traditional treatment
- Whiplash and old injuries
